>UN human rights envoy to Cambodia resigns

>

The UN’s special envoy for human rights to Cambodia Yash Ghai (pictured) has resigned after arguing with Cambodian officials and complaining of being repeatedly insulted by Prime Ministrer Hun Sen.

The Kenyan lawyer gave unusually blunt assessments of the government’s reform failures.

He was snubbed by government officials during a visit in December when he declared the country’s judiciary had failed.

Cambodia lodged a formal complaint against Mr Ghai with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

  1. >Khmerization;Personal opinion – May be UN shall learn from other countries. I.e. Australia and Canada [Australia is leading the way by having 1st Female Ambassador in Cambodia] by having a female representative to Cambodia – an effective way to persuade Phnom Penh.
